The history of the commercial property
The Citadela House was built by Hadji Yanaki Flori – a large grain merchant at the time. Decorated in the spirit of European classicism and decorated with the attributes of the baroque, it is one of the most modern residential buildings of the time, not only in Varna, but throughout Bulgaria. Researchers liken the building to an Italian palace from the Renaissance era. One can also feel the influence of the summer palaces in Odessa, where its owner lived.
The Citadela House has a rich history: the first charity ball in Varna, held in 1867; the liberation of Varna from Turkish slavery in July 1878 housed the headquarters of the Russian army in the building. It is in this building that he spends his first night on Bulgarian soil Prince Alexander Batenberg, who is to be sworn in as Bulgarian ruler in two days. Over the years, the house housed the Girls’ High School, the Fleet Machine School (today the Navy School), the Deaf Mansion, the Blind School, the Kindergarten.
